Work Anxiety – Is It The Job, or Me?

Everyone feels anxiety at different points in our lives, it’s a normal part of life. For some anxiety can start to take over.  You start feeling irritable, fatigued, have trouble concentrating, and start making more mistakes.  You dread any additional stress as you’re trying to hold it together.  Becoming even more worried that other people will notice merely compounds the anxiety.

It’s important to identify the root cause of the anxiety and begin to determine what can be done about it.  Areas to consider when evaluating your situation are:

  1. Workload
  2. Long hours
  3. Supportive versus demanding boss
  4. Authority is equal to responsibility
  5. Inclusive versus exclusive management styles
  6. Are you treated with respect
  7. Is your boss sensitive or insensitive

After you have determined the root cause of your anxiety, you can determine whether your need to make substantial changes, possibly even change jobs or if you need to find ways to manage your stress. Maybe it’s both.

Stress management is important whether you work in a healthy environment or a dysfunctional environment.
